Vigo Bay Gold Shipwreck Coin Estimated up to $513,000

Gold coin of Queen Anne is being auctioned at St. James’s Auctions’ in Feb 2016, the estimated price of which is $513,000. The 1703 5guinea gold coin is extremely rare, as less 20 examples are known.The word “VIGO” below the bust of the queen indicates that the coin was struck with gold seized after a victorious naval battle between Spain and Britain at Vigo Bay of the coast of Spain.
The obverse side bears the bust of the Queen with VIGO inscribed under it and surrounded by inscription: Gratia Anna Dei. The Reverse bears a coat of arms and most importantly the year 1703.
With Queens Bust on one side the coin becomes so rare that the estimated price of the coin goes up to $513,000.
